Controlling Pests on Your RV
It’s the bane of every camper owner’s existence: those tell-tale signs of a pest infestation. Droppings, nibbled foods, chewed wires, nests, and bad odors are things you definitely don’t want in your RV, but it’s rather unfortunately a very inviting home to creatures, particularly when it’s in long-term storage. Here are some strategies you can apply to eliminate pests in your RV.
Cleaning
The best way to prevent pest infestation is to limit spills and crumbs in your RV. Pests of all kinds are attracted to food smells, so making sure that you thoroughly clean your kitchen and remove all traces of food and all sticky spills will help. Keep your dry goods in airtight containers and always wipe up spills promptly.
Rodents
Rats and mice can sneak into holes in your RV frame if you don’t block them up, so it’s a good idea to walk around your RV before you store it to find and block up any holes or gaps. There are humane traps and there are poisons you can use to eliminate rodents, but it’s always best to simply prevent them from getting in.
Insects
Using bait and insecticides to attract and kill roaches and other insects will be your best bet when it comes to your RV. Just be cautious about applying these substances, particularly if you have children or pets in the RV. Bees and wasps can also make nests outside, and these may require a professional pest-control specialist to deal with.
To handle ants, you can simply spray soapy water over the surface they’re crawling on and wipe it down, or you can vacuum them up and dispose of them far away.
