How Often Should I Have My RV Serviced?

You may be wondering how often you should be visiting the service department with your camper. It all depends on how much you use your rig. Always check your owner’s manual for specific information regarding maintenance.

In general, you’ll want to have fluids checked every 3,000 miles and larger components (like the brakes and bearings) checked every 10,000 miles. It’s also a good idea to have the air conditioning and furnace systems checked and cleaned at least once a year.

If you don’t use your camper as frequently, you should focus on staying up to date with general upkeep. Your owner’s manual should have information on what tasks you should be doing and how often you should be doing them. In general, give your rig an inspection about every six months to make sure everything is in good working order. Of course, if anything comes up, you can bring your rig in for service.

Making an Appointment

When you realize that it’s time to bring your camper in for service, you’ll need to make an appointment. While there are some maintenance tasks you can probably do yourself, some jobs are best left to the professionals. If you’re not confident about your ability to address an issue, it’s time to make an appointment.

Plan in Advance

It’s best to avoid day-of visits as the service department can be quite busy. It’s important to schedule an appointment in advance to limit how long you may have to wait. Next, craft a list of needs to bring to the department. The more you explain your needs, the easier it will be for the professionals to meet them.

If you need a repair, list out all of the problems you’ve noticed. If you’re coming in for routine maintenance, list out all of the steps you want handled. It’s easy to forget your needs in the moment, so writing them down will ensure that everyone is on the same page.
