Tips for RVing in the Rain
When you're driving across the country in your RV, you're likely to encounter multiple types of weather along the way. Each type of weather brings with it unique challenges that you'll need to navigate to safely arrive at your destination. At Mountaineer RV & Outdoor Center, we're happy to offer you these simple safety tips to help you stay safe in the rain. For more information or any pre-trip inspections, visit our location in Jane Lew or Mt. Nebo, West Virginia.
Give Yourself Extra Time
One of the great things about RVing is that you don't have to worry as much about adhering to someone else's schedule. This is especially useful when you encounter rain on the road since you can slow down without having to worry about arriving late. Driving slower and giving yourself extra time will ensure that you're able to maintain an adequate following distance between yourself and the car in front of you. This will give you more time to stop your RV so that you can brake safely without skidding on the wet roads.
Take Tire Pressure Seriously
Modern RV tires are marvels of engineering that help to divert water away from your tires and provide plenty of traction on wet roads. However, if your tires are underinflated, the advanced tread pattern won't do much good. Therefore, it's important to pay attention to the air pressure in your RV's tires, especially when you're driving in the rain. If you notice that the pressure gets too low, it's essential to find the nearest service station so that you can add air to the tires.
Don't Forget Your Wiper Blades
If you don't use your RV all that often, it can be easy to overlook certain components that need to be replaced regularly. One of these components is your RV's wiper blades. Old wiper blades can actually reduce your vision when you're driving in the rain instead of improving your vision. Plus, wiper blades that are stiff can scratch your windshield so that it's difficult to see when it's sunny as well. That's why it's a good idea to replace your wiper blades every six to 12 months, even if you only use your RV a few times a year.
